Infinity Scarf

I wanted to share with you my first homemade goodie for 2012. I decided to crochet myself an infinity scarf. I have been seeing these things pop up everywhere but have never wanted to fork over the money that retailers are asking. So, I decided to get out the old crocheting needle and make one! I have not crocheted in a long time, but I am always nostalgic for it. My great grandmother was the one who taught me how to crochet. She once helped me to crochet a little white angel to hang on the Christmas tree. I was young when she taught me, and didn't have a whole lot of patience back then, so I didn't really learn as much as I wish I had. I thought that this would be a great time for me to try to relearn how to do some of the basic steps and maybe crochet my new baby an afghan. We will see. But for now, I did make myself this scarf. I used some cheap yarn I had on hand and it is a little stiffer than I would like for it to be, but I think it looks nice. I am definitely going to try to make another one in the near future.

This is my infinity scarf that didn't really cost me a thing because I had all the materials on hand

I am writing out rough instructions on how to make this scarf, but the other thing that gets me about crocheting is all the counting. I lose count so easily. I also have trouble reading all the abbreviations. But here are the basic instructions, give or take a little:

Ch 21 loosely
Row 1: Dc in back ridge of fourth ch from hook and in each ch across: 19 sts.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn; dc in next dc and in each st across
Repeat Row 2 until scarf is desired length.
Finish off

So it's pretty simple actually. I basically made a giant swatch of double chains and then just connected them with a slip stitch when it was at the desired length. Eventually I would like to add maybe some more flare and different colors. I need a little more practice first.
